We have just installed openvpn on one of our servers, this allow you to join your computer to our virtual network.

With a small client or a quite simple linux confg you can join the virtual network community.

What does this mean for you? You will be able to host your own server within the virtual network and share it with the commuity.

When you request a VPN account we will supply you your own certificate, key and certificate of authority. We will also assign you a static IP address.

Only xylene members will have access to the vpn, but you will still need to take the usual precautions like firewall and security on your servers.

If you are interested in joining our virtual community please e-mail us at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it

I will be posting a more detailed set of instructions to help get you joined to our virtual network soon.

Please take a look at our projects page and help build the community spirit.

For those who want to help find ET and at the same time get a pretty funky screen saver seti @ home is a great way to use your computers spare time and energy to process radio telescope data and also increase the xylene teams overall score. Can you help us beat the record?

For those of you who want to share in the spirit of giving the FON wireless project is a great way to share you home internet connection and maybe get some money back. The wireless routers are quite cheap, very small and very easy to set up. If you want to join the xylene account please contact us at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it and we will tell you how.

The last project we are backing is the secondary DNS exchange. When you register a domian name say bob.com you need 2 name servers; one acts as primary and the other is your backup. You can have more than 2 name servers; infact you can have as many as you like. The secondary DNS exchange project allows you to find owners of domain name servers who are willing to host your domain for free. You will see Xylene is in the list already.
